Arranging the abandoned
Between photography and installation
Kyoung Jae Cho fuses the disciplines of installation and photography. In his work he collects abandoned or used things, which he finds in many places: on the streets or in the fund of a theater. Kyoung Jae Cho then rearranges these things in an installation. This logic of building things from things, inspires his artistic concept. In doing so, his installations fulfill two functions. At first they are rooms. They are built to be approached by the observer. Secondly they are the starting point for Kyoung Jae Cho’s photographs. From well chosen angles or perspectives he takes a picture of the installation. Being pictured in a photo, the installation is transferred to another state of art and becomes a totally new work. But it is not only Kyoung Jae Cho, who is taking the photo. Everybody is invited to participate and take her or his own picture of his work.
